Windows 10

Quickest way to use this page is to find/search for whatever you seek.

Any missing versions within a description are not statements of unavailability. Though I am sure I used them, I simply do not remember testing these commands in other versions of Windows, and would rather not list them if not one-hundred percent confident in their existence.

If there is an asterisk within the version, that command is most likely as universal a command as could exist.

System File Checker

sfc

Installed by default. [Version 10.0.18363.836]
RunAs: Administrator
System File Checker inspects and attempts to fix all important Windows files including Windows DLL files. The application creates a log file of it's activities by default. The log is most likely located at: "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log".

Most common usage:

sfc /scannow

SFC can be executed from outside of Windows as well, from a boot disc, flash drive, System Repair Disc, Recovery drive, et cetera. Determine the correct drive path prior to usage. Use the following form:

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

When in doubt:

sfc /?
